As the truism goes, one game counts the same in April as it does in September. But there are still a few things we can gleam from Opening Day. Whether or not any of it’s useful is a different story.

  • Fernando Cabrera (1 IP, 6 ER) won’t end the season with an ERA under 2.00.
  • Bobby Crosby sure finds creative ways to injur himself.
  • Somebody needs to tell the Orioles to save some of their power for non-Opening Day games — six straight kickoff wins, six straight losing seasons.
  • Either Kenny Rogers renewed his pact with the Devil or the Kansas City offense is awful. Hey, why not both?
  • This Roberto Petagine guy is pretty good (HR). Somebody should give him a full-time job.
  • Albert Pujols has not decided to coast this year.
  • I’m on pace to watch parts of 524 games through mlb.tv this season. And I don’t feel the slightest bit of laziness.
