It’s a little soon for a full-fledged don’t-overreact-to-what’s-happened-so-far-because-it’s-still-early post, but firing off a round of the On-Pace Game should carry a similar, yet more light-hearted, lesson.

Player X is On-Pace For a Ridiculous Number of Things!

  • Derrick Turnbow is on-pace for 162 saves.
  • Bill Mueller is on-pace for 270 RBI.
  • Grady Sizemore is on-pace for 810 at-bats and zero runs scored.
  • There are 31 players, including Skip Schumaker, on-pace to break Bonds’ single-season SLG record of .864.
  • Adam Dunn is hitting .571 and on-pace for only 81 strikeouts.
  • Adam LaRoche is on-pace to strike out 378 times.
  • Carlos Beltran is on-pace to see 4050 pitches.

  • Paul Konerko and Sean Casey are both on-pace to ground into 162 double plays.
  • Albert Pujols is on-pace to hit 162 HRs, and that just might be the most believable stat of all…
  • Except that the Royals are on-pace to be outscored by 1053 runs.
