If you haven’t tried it, check out Baseball-Reference’s Play Index tool. PI is a moderately easy-to-use interface for querying historical baseball data, most importantly the retrosheet pbp logs from 1957 onward. 2007 data is also included. There’s also a Stat of the Day Blog with a handful contributors highlighting the power of the tool. I just posted an entry listing the most games in a season batting lead-off by unusual positions — catcher, third base, and designated hitter.
