Tom Tango, one of the best analysts on the web, runs an annual research project in which ordinary baseball fans judge the fielding abilities of players they watch regularly. The hope is that the wisdom of the crowds is pretty accurate. To cast ballots for a team you’ve watched play at least ten times this year, click here for further instructions.

I also like this type of analysis, showing the relative average fielding abilities of the different positions. Tango has done follow-up research showing that speed is (perhaps obviously) a very important skill that can be leveraged positively or negatively by moving players between the outfield and infield.
