I almost posted yesterday about how un-clutch David Ortiz had been in 2007. His context-neutral offensive performance had been worth about 5 wins above average, while his WPA was only at 3.3 wins, meaning he’d been un-clutch to a tune of 1.7 wins.
I was going to insist Ortiz undergo an MRI to uncover the injury causing his clutchiness to decline so much, but last night Big Papi broke out of his clutchiness slump with two homeruns, one of them a walk-off job. His clutchiness is now only -1.1 wins and I’m confident Ortiz is due to bring that up to at least +1.0 by the end of the season, as that’s his true talent clutchiness level.
