Rehashing Rollins Vs. Utley
Posted by: Sky in Around the Web, tags: chase utley, dugout central, Jimmy RollinsI have another guest post up over at Dugout Central today, this time pointing out that Jimmy Rollins wasn’t as valuable as Chase Utley (let alone Albert Pujols or David Wright) last year. It’s written for the non-VORP crowd and shows how poorly Utley would have had to perform in the extra 165 plate appearances Rollins had in order to equal his AVG/OBP/SLG line: .194/.103/.430. I realize that specific line isn’t possible, but any replacement shmuck can throw together a .533 OPS.
Again, if you like the article, feel free to give it the green thumbs up. I’m sure someone will bring up Rollins’ stolen bases in the comments, but you can just counter with Utley’s fielding advantage.
I also wrote two articles on Jimmy Rollins last fall. One pointed out that his high amount of playing time doesn’t make up for his lack of quality. The other pointed out that Curtis Granderson was the much more valuable 20-20-20-20 guy.
