With open-season on free agents starting tomorrow, I’m going to officially close the poll on the best big-name free agent signing. Here’s who you think will provide the best value:
The only major disagreement I have with the list would be Torii Hunter. He’s not that good offensively and his defense is slipping. I’d much rather sign Rowand or Jones.
Rick Ankiel pulled a Shane Spencer-like debut in 2007, except it was a couple months long and he had a history of Knoblauch-itis. Is Ankiel really this good of a hitter? How many homeruns will he hit in 2008?
Feel free to discuss Ankiel’s future in the comments.
Ok, you’re the GM of a team who could use one or more of these big-name free agents to fill a hole. Who are you willing to sign, given the money they’re likely to demand? You can select as many choices as you’d like. Share your thoughts in the comments.
Only 9 people voted for in the World Series Champs poll, which is now closed. Here are the results:
4 Yankees
2 Red Sox
1 Indians
1 Cubs
1 Rockies
That pretty much reflects the odds Vegas is putting on things. If I were gambling, I’d steer clear of the Yankees and Red Sox while putting money on the Indians and Rockies.
Wow, now that’s a poll! For NL MVP, there were 66 votes cast (using approval voting). Of the 25 candidates on the ballot, only six didn’t receive a vote. Here are the results:
To be honest, I think that’s a pretty damn good list — the best I’ve seen from any source: Steve Phillips, discussion forums, bloggers, and columnists. Does the credit go to you, the voters? Or to the power of approval voting?
If the poll were Best NL Player instead of NL MVP, how would your vote have changed?
