In honor (?) of the writers strike that officially started yesterday in Hollywood, I presented a list of the pitchers who threw the most strikes in a single game. Here are two teaser bits of information:
- Randy Johnson has the best performance for a non-extra innings game — his 18-strikeout performance in only 8 innings.
- Tim Wakefield holds the record for most strikes thrown in a game without recording a strikeout: 103.

Brett Butler once scored 112 runs in a season while only hitting two homeruns and thirteen doubles. That fun fact plus many more concerning the most RBIs and RUNs without hitting for power at the Stat of the Day Blog.

Todd Helton is one of three players to post two seasons with at least 100 extra base hits. Can you name the other two? Here’s a hint: Albert Belle and Babe Ruth just missed the cut, posting one year with at least 100 XBHs and one with 99 XBHs. And actually, Ruth had two with 99 and one with 97.
Here’s a list of all players with at least five seasons of 80 XBHs:
Player Num
Lou Gehrig 10
Babe Ruth 9
Stan Musial 6
Hank Greenberg 6
Alex Rodriguez 6
Willie Mays 5
Albert Pujols 5
Vladimir Guerre 5
Ted Williams 5
Rogers Hornsby 5
Jimmie Foxx 5

I have a new post over at Baseball-Reference.com’s Stat of the Day blog taking a look at how unique Brandon Webb’s 9 K, 3 BB, 89 pitch outing was last night. That’s not a lot of pitches for some many K’s and BB’s.
After running a couple lists, Scott Kazmir had 3 similar games over the past few seasons. He’s just a weird pitcher, huh? Is there anything in his skill set that makes him prone to striking out a lot of guys, walking a few guys, and still keeping his pitch total down?
